Description
KijaniBox is a highly innovative project aimed at accelerating African green transition and providing energy access for small businesses along the food supply chain. The target is to leverage the organic waste and transform them into green energy for cooling and refrigeration applications in order to prevent food losses and sanitary risks. The project aims to demonstrate the concept in pilot sites in Kenya, Senegal and Uganda, in partnership with local waste management companies, food value chain actors and cold supply chain industries.
The project, co-funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme (GA 101147463), is coordinated by the TECHNISCHE UNIVERSITAET DRESDEN, and involves European and African partners:


ENEA Activities
ENEA, as one of the project partners, is involved in the following activities:
- Laboratory analyses for characterization and biogas production from different biomass feedstocks
- Design, development and realization of biodigester prototype
- Engineering and design of real site biogas plants
- Training and capacity building for operation and maintenance of biogas plants
- Realization of operative manuals and schemes for the assembly and exercise of the Solution Boxes (biogas plants), including chiller and ancillary equipment
- Support to the development of manufacturing and supply chain
