Description
ENEA provides specialized technical support to UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) in projects aimed at reducing unintentional releases of persistent organic pollutants from industrial sectors. ENEA's contribution is focused on the dissemination of best available techniques (BAT) and best environmental practices (BEP) in the metallurgical sector.
In particular, ENEA contributes to projects aimed at supporting developing countries to meet their obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). These projects are funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the international financial tool to assist developing countries and economies in transition in addressing global environmental issues, and implemented by UNIDO as a GEF partner Agency.
ENEA Activities:
- Assistance in the formulation and development of project proposals on the introduction of best available techniques (BAT) and best environmental practices (BEP) in the metallurgical value chain;
- Training of local staff on issues of U-POPs releases from metallurgical processes;
- Technical assistance for the identification of BAT/BEP for metallurgical plants.
